Common Application

An application portal offering a single point of contact for more than 700 colleges.  Approximately one million students use this convenient application each year.  www.commonapp.org  

ACT

A standardized test that rivals the SAT.  The format and scoring are different from the SAT, and many people consider ACT to be more comprehensive.  www.act.org


The test breakdown is as follows:


  • English ~ 75 questions ~ 45 minutes
  • Math ~ 60 questions ~ 60 minutes  
  • Reading ~ 40 questions ~ 35 minutes 
  • Science ~ 40 questions ~ 35 minutes
  • Writing ~ 1 question ~ 40 minutes 

       

SAT

Offered by the College Board, the SAT is the most universally known standardized test in the country.  www.collegeboard.org 


The test is made up of the following components: 


  • Reading ~ 52 questions ~ 65 minutes 
  • Math ~ 58 questions ~ 80 minutes
  • Writing & Language ~ 44 questions ~ 35 minutes

Fair Test

For students who are not interested in taking a standardized test, this site offers a list of more than 900 colleges that are either test optional or test flexible. www.fairtest.org
